How to open your book

   Open your email

   Tap the download link in the email from me. Safari saves the file to your phone.

   Tap the download arrow

   Look in Safari's address bar for a downward arrow. It jumps when the file arrives.

   Tap your book

   It shows up in the list with a book icon. Tap it once to open the preview.

   Send it to your app

   Tap Share, then pick Books or whichever app you read in. It stays in that library from now on.

   Open your email

   Tap the download link in the email from me.

   Open the notification

   Swipe down and tap Download complete. No notification? Open your Files or Downloads app.

   Tap the file

   Android asks Open with and shows every app that can read it.

   Pick your app

   Choose your reading app and the book opens straight away.

Play Books works differently. It can't open a file from your phone's storage. Upload it at Play Books uploads instead, and it syncs to every device you're signed in on.

   Download the file

   Use the link in your email. A phone or a computer both work.

   Open Send to Kindle

   Go to amazon.com/sendtokindle and sign in with your Amazon account.

   Drop the file in

   Drag it into the box, or tap to pick it from your files.

   It arrives on its own

   The book appears on your Kindle and in the Kindle app, usually within a minute.

No approved sender needed. That step only applies when someone emails a book to your Kindle address. Here you're uploading it yourself, so you can skip it.

   Download the file

   It lands in your Downloads folder.

   Open your reading app

   Apple Books on a Mac. Kindle for PC or Calibre on Windows.

   Drag it in

   Or use File → Add to Library. Same result.

   It syncs everywhere

   Once it's in your app it follows you onto your phone and tablet by itself.

   Download on a computer

   The simplest route for an e-reader that isn't a Kindle.

   Plug it in by USB

   Your Kobo or NOOK appears as a drive, like a memory stick.

   Copy the file across

   Kobo: drop it anywhere on the drive. NOOK: put it in the Documents folder.

   Eject and read

   Safely eject the device. Your book is waiting in its library.

No cable to hand? Put the file in Dropbox or Google Drive on your computer, then open that app on your device and tap the file. Newer Kobos can pull straight from Dropbox.
